Consortium Offers Colorectal Cancer Evidence Academy: "From Prevention to Treatment"


The Western North Carolina Colorectal Cancer Evidence Academy: "From Prevention to Treatment" is being offered on March 12, 2010 at Lake Junaluska.  

The event, which provides educational sessions for physicians, physician's assistants, nurse practitioners, nurses, cancer survivors, patients and caregivers, is sponsored by UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the NC Comprehensive Cancer Program in partnership with Mountain Area Health Education Center, American Cancer Society, and Mission Hospitals.

Several counties in Western North Carolina exceed both the state and national rates of colorectal cancer incidence and mortality.  

Benjamin Calvo, MD, Associate Professor of Surgery and Director, Gastro-Intestinal Multidisciplinary Oncology Program at UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center and the N.C. Cancer Hospital, will present evidence on treatment options.  

Additional topics include: Screening Options, Clinical Trials, Informed Decision Making, Medical Reimbursement, Electronic Health Records, and Genetic Testing among others.

Information on funding sources for research, medical practice, and community projects will be presented.

CME and CEU credits will be offered.
